George Eliot Academy has been praised by Ofsted as a 'GOOD' School

George Eliot Academy in Nuneaton has been praised by Ofsted for its ‘culture of mutual respect’ and the value it places on kindness as it continues to make tangible improvements.

The comments appeared in a report published following Ofsted’s inspection of George Eliot Academy on 28-29 September 2021 in which the school was judged to be ‘Good’ in all categories including for the quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, leadership and management, and overall effectiveness.

The school has benefited from being part of the Midland Academies Trust which provides high quality continuous professional development for its staff, and the opportunity for leaders to share their expertise via principal and subject leader networks. As a result, all four schools within the Trust benefit from shared good practice and improved outcomes for pupils. The Trust also supports the co-ordination of the curriculum across its schools, easing staff workload and enabling more resources to be dedicated to enriching pupils’ experiences.

Homeira Zakary, Principal of George Eliot Academy, said, “We are very proud of our school; everyone who spoke to Ofsted inspectors said that the school has shown considerable improvement. The report reflects how our pupils benefit from well-trained teaching staff, a broad and effective curriculum, and a high standard of behaviour.

“We have achieved this by setting out clear expectations, as well as building a strong and well-equipped team with the right training. This helps us to effectively deliver our challenging curriculum, listening to feedback and adapting our practices accordingly.

“Ofsted also noted that the school fosters a safe and inclusive environment in which all our pupils can thrive and progress. The positive outcome of our Ofsted inspection is testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff and pupils, and the support of our parents. I would like to thank everyone for their contribution to the success of George Eliot Academy.”

Marion Plant, OBE FCGI, Principal and Chief Executive of the Midland Academies Trust said, “The trustee board welcomes this recognition from Ofsted of the significant progress that the school has made under the leadership of Homeira Zakary. The report recognises that Homeira leads the school with ‘clear vision and great energy’ and has the wholehearted support of school staff.

“Ofsted has recognised the hard work and determination of the whole team in improving standards at the school and we are sure that with this endorsement, George Eliot Academy will go from strength to strength.”
